Hastelloy

When the environment is chemically aggressive, Hastelloy is the answer. At PreOne, fabricating it is second nature – precise, clean, and tested.

Hastelloy’s strengths

  • Hastelloy C-22 and C-276 offer excellent resistance to chlorides, acidic solutions, and hot processes – operating environments where standard alloys lose their properties quickly.
  • Welding Hastelloy requires precise thermal control and strictly controlled conditions. We use documented and tested procedures that prevent embrittlement risks and ensure consistent joints.
  • Hastelloy is suitable for tanks, piping, reactors, and heat exchangers – applications where corrosion resistance and long service life are critical for performance and safety.

FAQ about Hastelloy

In which conditions is Hastelloy the best choice?

In high temperatures and environments with strong acids or chlorides, such as in the chemical and energy industries. It is the “last line of defense” when standard stainless steel (316L) or even Duplex cannot withstand pitting or stress corrosion cracking. Typical applications include flue gas scrubbers, reactors, and pulp bleaching plants.

Which Hastelloy alloys do you use?

We most commonly handle C-276 and C-22 alloys. C-276 is the industry “workhorse” for demanding chemicals, while C-22 offers even broader protection against oxidizing media. Through our sourcing network, we can acquire the exact specific nickel alloy (e.g., B-3 or X) that your process requires.

Is welding Hastelloy difficult?

It requires specialized expertise. Hastelloy is sensitive to heat input: if the welding current is too high or travel speed incorrect, the material’s microstructure changes, and corrosion resistance is lost. Therefore, welding requires a “cool head” and a steady hand. Our welders are trained to control the heat input and cleanliness requirements of nickel alloys to ensure the weld seam endures just as effectively as the base material.

The benchmark of corrosion resistance

Hastelloy performs in environments where chemical stress exceeds the limits of standard steel.

Hastelloy is a specialty alloy utilized when the chemical stress, temperature, and impurities of a process exceed the performance capabilities of standard stainless steel. Grades C-22 and C-276 offer exceptional corrosion resistance against chlorides, acidic solutions, and highly reactive substances – operating environments where the material simply has to endure.

Processing Hastelloy requires precise thermal control, stable welding conditions, and methods that keep the material’s structural integrity unchanged, even in high-temperature processes. At PreOne, these are not special requirements, but part of our daily operations: documented procedures, precise shielding, and tested joints.

We use Hastelloy in reactors, heat exchangers, piping, and other structures where reliability cannot depend on the unpredictability of conditions. Every project is engineered with dimensional precision, tested before delivery, and executed to ensure the final result functions without corrosion or embrittlement risks year after year.

Hastelloy is not a compromise – it is the choice for processes that demand more from their metal than others.
